

True to its name, the beach sports a series of cannons that locals claim came from a nearby shipwreck. Make sure not to miss Cannon Beach, one of the most unique beaches on the entire island. The park is named after John Pennekamp, a Miami newspaper editor who worked diligently to help establish the Everglades National Park and the above-mentioned Coral Reef State Park. The park is adjacent to the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and, together, they cover an impressive 178 nautical square miles of coral reefs, mangrove swamps, and seagrass beds.
